Sophia (van Heugten) Berkers is geboren in Noord-Brabant in 1792

Sophia was born on or just before 20 September 1792 in Deurne in the Netherlands as child of Lambert van Heugten and Elisabeth Laurensse. She was baptized on 20 September 1792 in the Roman Catholic church of Deurne.[1]

On 17 February 1816 she married Francis Berkers. The marriage took place in Deurne en Liessel.[2] The couple had two children, of whom one reached adulthood:

  1. Arnoldus Berkers (1816-1816)
  2. Johanna Klerks - Berkers (1817-1864)

12 days later after giving birth to Johanna, Sophia passed away on 16 December 1817 in Deurne en Liessel at the age of 25. This happened presumably due to complications of giving birth.[3]

Research notes

  • Sophia was baptized on 20 September 1792.[1] In these times children were baptized as soon after birth as possible, to prevent that the child would die unbaptized (and could not go to heaven). Hence Sophia would have been born on 20 September 1792 or in the days before.
  • The following name variants are used for Sophia:
    • Sophia van Heugten on her baptism record (Latin) and death certificate (Dutch).[1][3]
    • Sophia van Hugten on her marriage certificate (Dutch).[2]
